Why people with coronavirus lose their sense of smell and taste?

As we have many patients with the same disease and if anyone in our surrounding

had this Coronavirus infection and recovered out of it, then you must have

noticed a change in them, that is they must have complained about losing or

weakening their sense of taste and smell.

In this article, we will come to know about “why people with coronavirus lose their sense of taste and smell?”.

In recent research, medical researchers came to know about many people lose their sense of smell after the COVID-19 surgery, it is believed that due to tissues from the patient’s nose is removed for the purpose of the operation. Researchers also came to find that an extreme level of angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE-2) exists in the nose that is responsible for the smell. Till now, it is believed that this enzyme could be the entry point for the coronavirus infection, also there are many other symptoms, such as rashes, fever, tiredness, dry cough, aches & pain, sore throat, diarrhea, headache, there are some of the common and normal symptoms of coronavirus, there are other symptoms as well which are considered as serious and dangerous symptoms from others, it includes difficulty in breathing or feeling shortage of breath, feeling chest pain or any kind of effort in breathing, loss of speech or movement.

All the researches and scientists believe that angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE-2) can assist in managing the effect of the treatment of coronavirus among patients. Recently, a study/research work which is carried out by Professor Andrew P. Lane getting on top charts and everyone is talking about the study carried out by him. He is well known and recognized director of the skull base surgery and rhinology. He surpasses his statement that “I specialize in nasal and sinus problems, so the loss of the sense of smell in Covid-19 is of particular clinical interest to me. While other respiratory viruses generally cause loss of the sense of smell through the obstruction of airflow due to swelling of the nasal passages, this virus sometimes causes loss of smell in the absence of other nasal symptoms.”

In order to get more deep into this study and research, scientists have taken 23 samples of the tissues of the nose from the patients who get treated by endoscopic surgical procedures. We all are waiting to see further results and outcomes of this research work.

Later, professor Andrew P. Lane added into his statement “We are now doing more experiments in the lab to see whether the virus is indeed using these cells to access and infect the body. If that's the case, we may be able to tackle the infection with antiviral therapies delivered directly through the nose.”

As we all know that everyone is suffering through bad health conditions and through any kind of infection globally, we at ANBIS International medical support services have taken the responsibility to cure chronic kidney disease among those who are suffering from it, also to provide the world the trustworthy and reliable organ transplant services, along with the kidney transplant in Philippines and in rest of the globe.
